Vine Street Improvements

VINE STREET IMPROVEMENTS
Project Information

The Vine Street Improvement Project in Murray City is part of the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program and is a federally funded local government project. UDOT has an administrative role in the project to ensure that all funding requirements are met from the environmental phase through construction. Murray City is responsible to design and construct the project as per the scope defined in the funding application and concept report in compliance with applicable UDOT Guidelines and Standards.

Vine Street functions as a major east-west collector in Murray providing local and regional access to 900 East, 1300 East, Van Winkle and I-215. Much of Vine Street is already at the correct width but it doesn't have continuous sidewalk, curb and gutter, shoulders and center turn lane making it unsafe for pedestrians and other users. The project goal is to provide a safe and efficient "complete roadway" for multiple modes of travel including passenger cars, pedestrians, bicycling and will also function as a safe walking route for children attending Woodstock Elementary School. The project will include sidewalks, bike lanes, shoulders and a center turn lane for both directions of travel. The center turn lane will improve safety by eliminating stopped or slow turning vehicles from through lands, thus reducing the incidence of rear-end and left-turn crashes. Bike lanes will provide a safe space outside of the vehicle lanes for bicycle travel and shoulders will allow parking outside of travel lanes.

Much of Vine Street is already at the correct width and the City is working to minimize the impacts to private property along the entire project. However, there are sections that the City will need to acquire property to allow for curb and gutter and sidewalk to be installed.
