Geographic Information Systems Division

GIS is used to analyze complex situations and create solutions, which helps increase efficiency, reduce costs, improve coordination, and deliver transparency and accountability. Murray City's GIS Division maintains an integrated collection of computer software and data used to view, manage and analyze geographically related information. The GIS Division creates and maintains mapping applications, complete with attribute data that is used for management and planning activities, and to meet with needs of citizen requests. The GIS Division provides training in the use of these applications, and the GIS technology is made available to all City departments. GIS data is made available consistent with the provisions of Government Records Access Management Act. (GRAMA) The GIS Division maintains a Geographic Information System which supports:

  • Decision making for department and policymakers
  • Data accuracy, accessibility and integrity
  • Internal and external database integration
  • Disaster response time
  • Improved maintenance of the City infrastructure
  • Better long range planning and management within the City
  • More efficient data sharing within the City and with outside agencies
