Hunter Safety Program
We are no longer hosting classes twice or even once a year. The classes are held at the Murray Police Training Center located at 136 W Vine Street.
While these are Hunter Education classes they offer very important benefits for anyone who attends. The classes allow students to become familiar with general gun safety procedures, learn proper firearm handling and how to handle situations involving firearms.
Instructors for these classes are all Murray City Police Officers. This provides an excellent opportunity for the citizens and especially the youth of the community to become acquainted with the Police Department and its officers on an informal basis and learn valuable information on a very important subject.
This course in mandatory for any Utah resident born after December 31, 1965 who wishes to apply for or obtain any Utah hunting license or permit. It may also be necessary for any Utah resident, regardless of age, who wishes to hunt in another state that requires proof of hunter education prior to obtaining out of state hunting licenses or permits. Non-residents of Utah, regardless of age, must provide proof of hunter education prior to applying for or obtaining Utah hunting permits or licenses.
While students of any age may attend the class, our experience has shown that students under the age of 12 struggle and often fail the class.
The only cost associated with this class is the purchase of a $10 hunter education voucher. This voucher must be purchased by the student prior to attending the class. Vouchers can be purchased from any State of Utah license agent or Division of Wildlife office.
After obtaining the voucher please contact the police administrative offices at 801-264-2673 and advise us of how many students will be attending.
Upon successful completion of the class students will be issued a certificate of completion. The blue card is not issued at the completion of the class but is mailed from Division of Wildlife Resources, and usually takes 2 to 4 weeks to arrive at the address listed on the voucher, please plan accordingly.
Thank you for your interest in keeping our community safe by learning responsible firearm handling and ownership.
