Fire Inspections & Prevention
There are three types of fire inspections:
- Annual Fire Inspections: Required for businesses and public buildings.
- This $75 fee is assessed when applying for or renewing your business license.
New Construction Inspections: Review fire safety systems in new buildings.
Re-Inspections: Information about follow-up inspections and the associated fees.
To schedule a fire inspection, you will need to send an email to the Fire Marshal.

Plan Reviews and Permit Process
Reviewing civil site plans, architectural drawings, and fire protection system submittals is a key responsibility of the Murray City Fire Marshal's Office. Whether it's a new commercial building, a residential subdivision, or an expansion to an existing structure, our office is actively involved in the plan review process and the issuance of permits.
Please note: Starting work on any fire protection system before receiving approved plans and a permit is done at the contractor’s own risk. No exceptions or special accommodations will be made. Before submitting, please review the specific requirements in the PDF linked below. Once ready, email an electronic copy of your plans to: Murray Fire Marshal - Plan Submittals

Fire Extinguishers
This video will demonstrate how to use a fire extinguisher using the PASS Method:
- P: Pull the pin so that you’re able to discharge the extinguisher.
- A: Aim the extinguisher nozzle at the base of the fire.
- S: Squeeze the lever to discharge the extinguishing agent.
- S: Sweep. Pointing the extinguisher at the base of the fire, move the extinguisher from left to right, or back and forth, in a sweeping motion until the fire it out.
Smoke Alarms
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)'s research has found that when working smoke alarms are in your home, the risk of dying in a house fire is cut by 60 percent. Smoke alarms save lives. For more in-depth look into smoke alarms please visit:
