The purpose of the Criminal Investigation Services is to investigate major crimes against persons and property. Detectives are selected from the patrol ranks of the Murray City Police Department. A minimum of two years experience is required to fill the position. Detectives are chosen through an application process. Detectives are appointed for a five year period. The Detective Services investigates all Class A Misdemeanor and Felony crimes. There are specialty assignments within the division; however, all detectives have been cross-trained to investigate multiple types of crimes. The following is a breakdown of detective assignments, along with a telephone number where they can be reached. In the case of a Homicide, several Crimes against Person's detectives may be assigned to the case.
