CANDIDATES FOR MAYOR | |
|---|---|
| NAME Bruce E Turner Non Partisan - General | Candidate Profile: "I’m Bruce Turner, and I’m running for Mayor of Murray. My family has called Murray home for over 120 years, spanning four generations. Public service is part of our legacy - my grandfather and father both proudly served in the Murray Police Department, my father also served 12 years on the City Council. My wife MaryAnn and I have raised our four children here, continuing our family’s longstanding commitment to Murray. I served the citizens of Murray for 45 years in the Power Department, retiring in July 2023. For the last 12 years of my career, I was the Operations Manager overseeing both the Operations and Forestry divisions, along with budgeting, and coordination with other departments. I also served on the Power Board and the Shade Tree Commission, and I held leadership roles with the Intermountain Power Superintendents Association (IPSA), including Chairman 2013 to 2019 and Vice Chairman 2020 to 2022. Throughout my career, I’ve worked closely with residents, employees, and city leaders. I understand how our city runs and what it takes to keep Murray thriving. I’m running for Mayor because I believe in this city, its people, and its future. I’m ready to Serve. I’m ready to lead." | NAME Brett A. Hales Non Partisan - General | Candidate Profile: "Listening, Leading, Delivering I’ve called Murray home for 37 years, and it’s where my wife, Cindy, and I raised our five children. I am deeply invested in this community and lead with respect and kindness, always valuing every voice—even those with differing opinions. With 10 years on the City Council and four years as Mayor, I’ve worked hard to provide trusted leadership focused on public safety, essential services, and fiscal responsibility. I’ve been committed to keeping property taxes low while maintaining a strong budget surplus. My background includes over 40 years in business and finance, where I gained valuable experience in management and strategic leadership. I am committed to listening to residents, managing resources wisely, and delivering projects that strengthen Murray’s future." CANDIDATES FOR DISTRICT TWO (2) | |
|---|---|
| NAME Pamela Jane Cotter Non Partisan - General | Candidate Profile: "What I value most about serving on the City Council is the opportunity to serve the residents of Murray. This isn’t just an 8-to-5 position; I make myself available by phone, text, or email anytime. If something is important to you, it’s important to me. Over the last four years, I’ve worked on both large and small issues: fixing garbage can handles, arranging City Journal deliveries, removing graffiti, securing grant funding for Riverview Park, and supporting dog-waste stations in our parks. I also assisted the owner of High Point Coffee in navigating city processes, helping replace a long-vacant building with a thriving business. When residents voiced strong opposition to the Block 1 proposal, I was the only council member to vote “NO” on the 150 apartments included in that project—because I listened to the people I represent. My priorities moving forward include traffic calming measures and working with Public Works to address infrastructure concerns across the city. I will continue to be careful with taxpayer dollars while supporting the public employees who keep Murray safe and strong. I’m honored to be endorsed by Murray City Firefighters, IAFF Local 4821." Driving a bus for UTA, working construction, and community organizing has provided me with firsthand knowledge of the challenges working families face. I earned my Master's Degree in Public Administration with an emphasis in local government from the University of Utah and I know how to get things done in city government. My roots run deep here in Murray, where I've witnessed our community's growth and evolution throughout the years. My grandparents on both sides of my family lived in Murray, my parents went to Murray High School, and I spent much of my childhood at my grandparents' houses, at Wheeler Farm, and at Murray Park. I choose to live in Murray because of its historic buildings, amazing transit connections, and beautiful open spaces. Murray is the gem at the heart of the Salt Lake Valley and I am proud to call it my home. My priorities include: reducing the cost of living in Murray, keeping our kids safe, and maintaining Murray’s identity. I would be honored to earn your vote and represent you on the city council."
