  • 1870 - First official U.S. Post Office established in South Cottonwood
  • 1871 - Railroad came to Murray
  • 1887 - Limited phone exchange service
  • 1893 - Street car extended to Murray
  • 1902 - Small hospital established in Dr. Jones' home
  • 1903 - Rocky Mountain phone exchange comes to Murray
  • 1905 - Murray School District established
  • 1908 - First City Hall, jail, and firehouse built
  • 1910 - City purchased water system from Progress Company
  • 1913 - Municipal power plant established
  • 1913 - New City library built
  • 1917 - Cemetery purchased by City from South Cottonwood Ward
  • 1919 - City water system expanded
  • 1924 - Murray City Park began
  • 1924 - Cottonwood Maternity Hospital established
  • 1927 - Dr. Sheranian's emergency hospital built
  • 1939 - Salt Lake County Fair came to Murray
  • 1946 - First zoning ordinances and building codes adopted
  • 1957 - New City Hall purchased at 5461 S. State St.
  • 1961 - Construction begins for Cottonwood Hospital
  • 1964 - Plans for new library and fire station developed
  • 1966 - I-15 Freeway began operation between 3300 S. and 5300 S.
  • 1972 - First phase of the Fashion Place Mall opened
  • 1982 - City Hall moved to old Arlington Elementary
  • 1990 - Master Plan for Jordan River Parkway adopted
  • 2000 - Murray smokestacks demolished and new IMC Regional Hospital plans begin
  • 2007 - Intermountain Medical Center opened for operation
